Tuesday, April 26, 2022 | 5 p.m.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Casey Shearer Prize, President Bill Clinton will join Derek Shearer, Chevalier Professor of Diplomacy and World Affairs at Occidental College and former U.S. ambassador to Finland, for a wide ranging conversation touching on everything from global politics in the 21st century to best leadership practices and the former president's present-day passion for creative writing.

President Bill Clinton

President Clinton is the Founder and Chairman of the Board of the Clinton Foundation and the 42nd President of the United States. He was the first Democratic president in six decades to be elected twice, and he led the United States to the longest economic expansion in American history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs. After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the Clinton Foundation in order to continue working on the causes he cared about. Since its founding, the Foundation has endeavored to help build more resilient communities by developing and implementing programs that improve people’s health, strengthen local economies, and protect the environment. President Clinton, having known Casey Shearer from infancy, was the featured speaker at the memorial service held at Brown University celebrating Casey’s life after his passing on May 23, 2000. The following year, the lecture series honoring him and recognizing nonfiction writing talent at Brown was established.
