Donations play a big role in Brown achieving its goal of diverting 50 percent of 'waste' from the landfill by 2020. Brown community members can donate clothing, small appliances, books, schools supplies, and small furniture at any of the Goodwill bins on campus.  These are located at the following locations:

1. Outside the Verney-Woolley dining hall

2. On Brown Street outside Keeney Quad

3. On Thayer Street outside of 144 Thayer Street

Items can also be donated during the University’s Clean Break Program.  During the month of May, volunteers place donation bins in all dorms across campus and all collected items are donated to Goodwill Industries of RI, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ocean State, Providence Animal Rescue League, Brown's First Generation and Low-Income Student Center, local libraries, and the RI Community Food Bank. In FY 2017, 19,621 pounds of material was diverted from the landfill and given to those in need.  If you are interested in becoming involved in this effort, please contact Erin Donnellan at
