Are you applying for foundation funding? Brown University and the University of Rhode Island have resources to help you gain a competitive edge.

For Faculty at Brown University:

Staff at the Brown Office of Foundation Relations (OFR) are available to meet with Brown faculty throughout the proposal process and offer insight and guidance on individual proposals, much of which is not available on foundation websites. Stewardship services are also available to investigators after an award is made.

OFR Services include:

  • Assistance identifying potential private foundation funders

  • Proposal editing and feedback

  • Communication with foundation program officers and others

  • Preparation and/or coordination of nomination/support letters signed by senior leadership

  • Preparation for interviews and presentations to foundations

  • Site visit support

After an an award is made, OFR staff will ensure the award is properly stewarded by providing letters of thanks from senior leadership within an appropriate time frame. OFR staff stays abreast of reporting deadlines to ensure that a foundation’s requirements are met.

Please note: These services are offered only for proposals that are submitted through Brown.

In addition to obtaining these services, please contact OFR to ensure a coordinated approach to a foundation; that your proposal is not in conflict with others; and that it meets foundation guidelines.

For Faculty at the University of Rhode Island:

As a major office within the URI Foundation, the Corporate & Foundation Relations (C&F) staff offers expertise and guidance to members of the University community with regard to:

  • Funding strategies

  • Prospect identification

  • Proposal review

  • Editing and writing

  • Building relationships with private corporations and foundations

C&F staff promote the development of interdisciplinary partnerships and help coordinate an effective, University-wide approach to corporate and foundation donors and prospects.
