Pamela Swiatek, PhD, MBA serves as the Strategic Planning Coordinator of Advance-CTR and was a member of the interdisciplinary team, led by Jim Padbury, MD, to secure this five-year Institutional Development Award (IDeA) in 2016. She is director of Research Operations and Major Proposal Coordination in the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown University. Dr. Swiatek provides strategic planning coordination and support by assisting with planning, organizing, coordinating and implementing special projects that strengthen the impact of Advance-CTR across the state.
Dr. Swiatek has 24 years of experience initiating, developing and overseeing core research facilities. At Brown University, she and her staff oversee the operations of 12 Core resource facilities. Core operations responsibilities include assisting the Core Facility managers with developing budgets, service rates and business plans and advising on core facility management, strategic planning and sustainability. In 2014 she led a team that developed www.CoresRI.org, a directory of core research facilities, services and instrumentation in Rhode Island. Dr. Swiatek also assists in coordinating the preparation and submission of large multi-institutional grant proposals. On funded major proposals she has recently served as the Program Coordinator for the Phase III COBRE for "Cancer Signaling Networks" at Brown University, as an Administrative Coordinator on the Rhode Island NSF EPSCoR "Infrastructure to Advance Life Sciences in the Ocean State" and she currently serves on the Steering Committee of the Phase I COBRE for Computational Biology of Human Disease at Brown University. Dr. Swiatek brings to the Administrative Core an established working relationship with the team, familiarity with the Rhode Island IDeA network programs, proficiency in interinstitutional project coordination and experience for Core Facility management and sustainability planning.
Dr. Swiatek received her Ph.D. in Pathology/Microbiology from Indiana University and her MBA from Krannert School of Management at Purdue University. She received postdoctoral training in Developmental Biology in Tom Gridley’s lab at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology in Nutley, New Jersey.
