In order to address the hard problems that face us now–from the proliferation of echo chambers to global climate change–we need vibrant coalitions across the humanities, social sciences and STEM. To foster such dialogue, this talk focuses on the use of proxies in models (to chart the unknown but not unknowable). The models in question are as seemingly disparate as global climate change models and social networking ones
