Pembroke Center Senior Fellow in Gender Studies Pamela Foa examines The Philadelphia Story to address the difficulties of finding and maintaining an adult intimate relationship. Describing an adult intimate relationship as one that exists over time in which the partners are equal in power and respect for each other, speak openly and honestly with each other and live their lives together bound by love and play. Exploring the exemplification of relational paternalism, power, and adoration in the movie, Foa anwers the question: Tracy Lord marries C.K. Dexter Haven rather than Mike Connor. Why?
