With a Brown ID, Ride RIPTA for Free
Effective September 1, 2007 current faculty, staff, and students are able to ride any RIPTA bus or trolley anytime, anywhere in the state at no charge. Brown's investment in this new UPASS program is the latest effort in one of many transportation initiatives benefiting it's employees, students, and the broader community.

How it Works
Swipe your Brown ID through RIPTA's new fareboxes and take a seat - it's that easy!  Rides will be electronically counted and RIPTA will bill the University monthly. The University will review monthly statistics to ensure that only current, valid IDs are in use. IDs that are cancelled, lost, stolen, or obsolete will be reported to RIPTA and will not work with the new fareboxes.

Bus Schedules
A kiosk with all current schedules is located in the Bank of America ATM vestibule on the street level of the Brown Office Building ( 164 Angell Street ). Bus schedules are changed three times per year: February 1, July 1, and September 1.

Google Transit Planner

RIPTA riders can access the new Google Transit trip planner to find the quickest, most convenient route to reach their destination. To use the trip planner, RIPTA customers simply enter their starting address and destination.  The trip planner can also be accessed through the RIPTA website.

Special Barrington Bus
As a result of the renewed Brown - RIPTA relationship, a special Barrington bus service will be added, direct to the East Side. The RIPTA bus #60 direct from Warren and Barrington to Brown is open to the public and stops at all local stops which are marked with a 12" by 18" RIPTA bus stop sign, or a bus shelter. Parking is available at Warren Park & Ride at Main and Franklin Streets, Police Cove Park, and the White Church in Barrington. Frequently the White Church becomes crowded by this late time in the morning. Riders may need to find alternative locations to leave their cars if White Church is full. This bus is a deviation of the normal route 60, which connects Providence and Newport via Barrington and Warren. The bus makes the following trip.

MORNING
Leave Franklin Street Park and Ride in Warren at 7:43am. Turn right on Route 114, passing the intersection of Main and Joyce Streets in Warren at 7:45am, Police Cove Park & Ride at 7:48am, Barrington White Church at 7:53am and arriving Brown (Thayer Street at the tunnel) at 8:15am.

EVENING
Come up through the tunnel from Kennedy Plaza arriving Thayer Street at the tunnel at 5:10pm, Barrington White Church at 5:30pm, Police Cove Park and Ride at 5:35pm, Main and Joyce Streets in Warren at 5:39pm and Franklin Street Park and Ride at 5:41pm.
