The Mentoring Program offers faculty members two options for participation, a Faculty Mentoring Program and Peer Mentoring Groups.
The Faculty Mentoring Program is a collaborative effort of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty, the Office of the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences, and the ADVANCE Program. It provides a formal mechanism for tenure-track faculty to connect with a mentor outside of their own department, with whom they can speak candidly about their experiences. Mentors will help the faculty member learn to negotiate the academic environment at Brown by providing information about university policies, culture, and resources.
The Peer Mentoring Groups is an ADVANCE at Brown initiative for both female and male faculty in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) beginning Fall 2008. Ideally tenure-track faculty members cultivate a circle of advisors, which includes senior faculty members at Brown and in their fields, and peers with whom there may be less risk in discussing experiences within Brown academic departments. |
