  • ADVANCE at Brown Department Chair Workshops
    The goal of these workshops is to provide chairs with information and skills that will have a positive effect on faculty development and departmental climate, facilitate communication between chairs to share experiences and best practices, and to integrate the broader goals of the ADVANCE Program by weaving information and discussion about issues of diversity and gender to improve the recruitment, retention, and promotion of women faculty.

    From the American Council on Education, this resource center is designed for those heading departments or programs and for administrators who work with department leaders.
  • ADVANCE Toolkit for Administrative Leaders
    Created by the ADVANCE Program at University of Michigan, the site provides resources on issues including recruitment, retention, climate, and leadership skill development.
Internal Funding Sources  
  • Office for the Vice President for Research (OVPR) Funding Opportunities
    Research Seed Funds and Salomon Awards are competitive grants distributed directly to faculty researchers and administered by the Office of the Vice President. The Departmental Research Funds for the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences are distributed to departments by the Office of the Vice President for Research.
  • Dean of the Faculty Faculty Travel Fund
    The Faculty Travel Fund (FTF) is available to voting members of the Brown faculty for assistance in meeting the costs of one professional trip during any academic year.
  • Travel Fund to Support Dependent Care Expenses
    provide awards of up to $750 per year to assist regular faculty (Lecturers, Senior lecturers, Assistant Professors, Associate Professor and Professors) with expenses incurred in association with professional travel.

  • Faculty Resource Network
    The FRN at New York University is an award-winning professional development initiative that sponsors programs for faculty members from a consortium of over 50 colleges and universities. The Network hosts lectures, symposia, and intensive seminars, all of which are designed to improve the quality of teaching and learning at its member and affiliate institutions.

    The four indicators compared in the report for women and men faculty are employment status (full- and part-time); tenure status for full-time faculty; promotion to full professor rank; and average salary for full-time faculty.

    Diversity in Science Association gender and race/ethnicity data for PhD attainment and faculty composition in the "Top 50" universities for selected science and engineering disciplines.
