Campus Resources
Sarah Doyle Women’s Center The Center offers a variety of services and programs, as well as meeting space for university and community groups. WiSE: Women in Science and Engineering For over 15 years, the WiSE Program at Brown has worked to promote women in science, mathematics and engineering. The program currently serves hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students. Office of Institutional Diversity In 2003, President Ruth J. Simmons created the Office of Institutional Diversity (OID) to provide leadership for the formulation and oversight of policies related to pluralism and equity, and initiate programs and practices that promote diversity, inclusion and fair treatment of all members of the community. Faculty Ombudsperson The Office of Faculty Ombudsperson exists to promote the well-being and mission of the faculty and the University. Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning The mission of the Center is to improve the quality of teaching at Brown University. The Center builds upon the unique and historic commitment of the University to excellence in teaching by recognizing the diversity of learning styles and exploring the richness of teaching approaches. Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women The Pembroke Center was established in 1981 as a research center on the theoretical dimensions of the category of gender.
National Reports and Data on Women in Science & Engineering
Beyond Bias and Barriers: Fulfilling the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering National Academies report written by Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (COSEPUP). President Simmons served on the distinguished 18-member Committee on Maximizing the Potential of Women in Academic Science and Engineering that produced this report for the National Academies. AAUP Faculty Gender Equity Indicators 2006 The four indicators compared in the report for women and men faculty are employment status (full- and part-time); tenure status for full-time faculty; promotion to full professor rank; and average salary for full-time faculty. Nelson Diversity Surveys Diversity in Science Association gender and race/ethnicity data for PhD attainment and faculty composition in the "Top 50" universities for selected science and engineering disciplines. Women, Minorities and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering This site provides data on the participation of women, minorities, and persons with disabilities in science and engineering education and employment. The data are organized by topic and are presented in tables, graphics, and spreadsheets for downloading.
