JIAAW Welcomes New Faculty
Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology and Professor of Modern Greek Studies Yannis Hamilakis, and Postdoctoral Fellows Katherine Brunson and Sophie Moore have now joined the faculty of the Joukowsky Institute.

Bestock Promoted to Associate Professor
JIAAW is pleased to congratulate Professor Laurel Bestock, who is now Associate Professor of Archaeology and the Ancient World and Egyptology and Assyriology, with tenure.

Spring/Summer Issue of "Inventory"
The latest issue of "Inventory", the newsletter of the Joukowsky Institute, is now available online, with stories on the successful completion of six doctorates (and one master’s), a class trip to Barcelona and Empúries, and Peter van Dommelen’s thoughts on several significant developments at JIAAW.

Congratulations to the Class of 2016

Leppard Appointed To Cambridge Fellowship
JIAAW alumnus Dr. Tom Leppard (Ph.D. 2013) has been appointed as the inaugural Renfrew Fellow in the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research at the University of Cambridge, in association with Homerton College, Cambridge.

Harrington Awarded Jacob Hirsch Fellowship
JIAAW's Dr. Katherine Harrington (Ph.D. 2016) has been selected to receive the Jacob Hirsch Fellowship from the American School of Classical Studies at Athens, for a year of study in Greece.

JIAAW Welcomes Yannis Hamilakis
Professor Yannis Hamilakis has accepted Brown University's offer to join the faculty of the Joukowsky Institute for Archaeology and the Ancient World, as well as the Modern Greek Studies Program (Department of Classics), as the Joukowsky Family Professor of Archaeology and Professor of Modern Greek Studies, beginning in July of 2016.

Dufton Awarded Deans' Faculty Fellowship
JIAAW's Andrew Dufton is one of seven Deans’ Faculty Fellows for 2016-2017, and will be a Visiting Assistant Professor of Archaeology at Brown University in Spring 2017, teaching ARCH 1177 "Occupy Archaeology! Interrogating Inequality, Past and Present." Congratulations, Andy!

Congratulations to Dr. Nowlin!
JIAAW's Jessica Nowlin successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, "Reorienting Orientalization: Intrasite Networks of Value and Consumption in Central Italy," on Wednesday, March 23rd.

Rothenberg Awarded OGE Funding
JIAAW's Miriam Rothenberg has been selected for the fifth class of Brown University's Open Graduate Education program, to pursue an MA in Earth, Environment and Planetary Sciences.

JIAAW's Linda Gosner successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, "Mining Matters: Rural Communities and Industrial Landscapes in Roman Iberia (3rd century CE-2nd century CE)," on Tuesday, March 22nd.

JIAAW's Katherine Harrington successfully defended her doctoral dissertation, "Home Economics: Domestic Production and Household Industry in Classical and Hellenistic Greece," on Friday, March 18th.

JIAAW Welcomes a Visiting Scholar
David Quixal holds a two-year postdoctoral fellowship from the Valencian regional government, and will be joining the Institute community through May 2016.

Andrews Receives Course Enhancement Grant
Visiting Assistant Professor Margaret Andrews was awarded a Salomon Grant by the Dean of the College, in support of her Spring course, ARCH 0525 The Other Side of Rome: Daily Life in the Roman Empire.

JIAAW Welcomes New Faculty Member
Visiting Assistant Professor Müge Durusu-Tanrıöver has now joined the faculty of the Joukowsky Institute. She is teaching From Gilgamesh to Hektor: Heroes of the Bronze Age this spring.

Durgun Receives $5,000 Grant
Doctoral candidate Pinar Durgun was awarded the Archaeological Institute of America's Harriet and Leon Pomerance Fellowship, in support of her project, "Places of the Dead: The Role of Landscape in the Formation of Mortuary Practices in Early Bronze Age Western Anatolia".

S'Urachi Project in the News
L'Unione Sarda shared the news that JIAAW Director Peter van Dommelen's S'Urachi project was featured during this year's AIA and SCS Joint Annual Meeting in San Francisco.

Paulette Receives Course Enhancement Grant
Postdoctoral Fellow Tate Paulette was awarded a Salomon Grant by the Dean of the College, in support of his Spring course, ARCH 1854 Handmade: An Archaeological Exploration of Materials and Making.

Fall/Winter Issue of "Inventory"
The latest issue of "Inventory", the newsletter of the Joukowsky Institute, is now available online, with stories on a bone-based collaboration between geology and archaeology, a pungent course on culinary history, and the successful completion of a Joukowsky Institute student’s doctorate, as well as two perspectives on a recent conference honoring John Cherry, and Peter van Dommelen’s thoughts on his first semester as the Director of the Joukowsky Institute.

Archaeology for the People (JIP 7) Now Available
The seventh volume in the Joukowsky Institute Publication (JIP) series, Archaeology for the People: Joukowsky Institute Perspectives, edited by John F. Cherry and Felipe Rojas, is now available from Oxbow Books.
