Every 10 years, Brown undergoes a process of reaccreditation by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) formerly the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC), one of six geographically based non-governmental, non-profit organizations recognized by the US Department of Education as a reliable authority on the quality of educational institutions and programs.
Brown’s reaccreditation occurred in the Spring of 2018. The following are the related reports and documents:
Reaccreditation involves developing a comprehensive self-study in response to the Standards for Accreditation maintained by NECHE, submission of institutional data, and an external review and report by a committee of experts drawn from peer institutions.
At its core, the reaccreditation process focuses on the clarity of Brown’s institutional mission as a guide for its educational programs and on the adequacy of institutional resources and organization to support that mission. Brown’s recent self-study was built on several years of intensive planning, agenda-setting, and organizational repositioning for the next decade and beyond. Over this period, Brown has generated:

These processes (as well as others) have addressed critical dimensions of mission, resources, and organization, and each engaged the broad campus community through some combination of direct representation of faculty, students, and staff on committees; consultation with relevant campus committees and advisory groups; and opportunities for open comment on draft plans.
