Unlock Your Master’s Degree

Brown undergraduate students have the unique opportunity to stay for an additional year to earn their master's degree.

Current students are eligible to:

  • Apply to a fifth-year master's program in their final year of undergraduate study at Brown
  • Apply up to two approved courses taken as an undergraduate student towards their graduate degree 

The master's program must be completed in one year, with at least six courses taken in-residence. See below for participating programs, application process and deadlines.

Application Process + Requirements

Admission decisions are made by individual departments. Prospective applicants are encouraged to contact their intended master's program to ensure they have the coursework necessary to apply. Questions about the application process should be directed to masters_admissions@brown.edu.

Application Requirements:

  • Unofficial Transcripts
  • Two or Three Letters of Recommendation
  • Personal Statement
  • Resume/CV

Please note: the GRE requirement is waived for fifth-year applicants

Please note: Undergraduate financial aid awards cannot be extended to apply to the fifth-year master’s program. Please contact your intended department/program for more information about financial aid or additional funding opportunities.
