The Young Scholars Conference aims to provide guidance and support for science graduate students and post-doctoral researchers as they prepare to enter the academic workforce. The 2018 conference was held on October 19th and 20th.

Friday, October 19th

  • 11:30 - 12pm: Check In 
  • 12 - 1pm: Lunch & Conference Welcome, Welcoming Address by Marlina Duncan, Associate Dean of Diversity Initiatives and Assistant Vice President for Academic Diversity at the Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity
  • 1 - 2pm: Keynote with Kaye Tye, Associate Professor at MIT's Picower Institute for Learning and Memory
  • 2 - 4pm: Poster Fair
  • 4pm: Group Photo
  • 4:15 - 6pm: Science Communication Workshop with Sunshine Menezes, Executive Directory of URI's Metcalf Institute for Marine & Environmental Reporting
  • 6:30pm: Dinner 

Saturday, October 20th

  • 8:30 - 9am: Breakfast
  • 8:45 - 9:30am: Interview How-To Workshop
  • 9:30 - 12pm: Mock Interviews
  • 12 - 1:30pm: Lunch & Career Panel with Amalia Ávila-Figueroa (Senior Scientist, Biocytogen U.), Heather Bennet (Assistant Professor, Bard College), Gelonia Dent (Science Center Director, Brown), and Iris Wagstaff (STEM Program Director, AAAS)
  • 1:30 - 2:30pm: Chalk Talk/Job Talk Workshops
