Distinguished Visiting Scholar Series (DVS²)

The Distinguished Visiting Scholar Series (DVS²) is sequence of quarterly talks presented by the COBRE for the Center for Addiction and Disease Risk Exacerbation and the COBRE for Opioids and Overdose. Through our dynamic collaboration, we will bring in a renowned visiting scholar to discuss topics related to the thematic content area of both COBRE Centers.

JANUARY 2020: DR. JOAO GOULAO,  "A PUBLIC HEALTH APPROACH TO DRUG POLICY" 
Dr. Joao Goulao is the Portugal National Drugs Coordinator and General Director of the Service for Intervention on Addictive Behaviors and Dependencies (Ministry of Health) in ​Por​​tugal. ​A medical doctor by profession, Dr. Goulao has over 30 years' experience regarding drug-related issues, working in this field since 1987 as a general practitioner, and since then his professional life has been devoted to drugs and health. He was a member of the Portuguese Committee that in 1999, prepared the report on which the first Portuguese Drug Strategy, which included decriminalization, was based.
