The South African Social Science and HIV Programme (SASH) is a research and training partnership dedicated to creating the next generation of HIV social science in South Africa.
The Fogarty International Center of the National Institutes of Health funds this collaborationa to build the research capacity needed to address the deadly co-epidemics of HIV and tuberculosis.
Stephen McGarvey works on a long-term series of NIH supported studies examining the genetic, physiologic, and behavioral influences on cardiovascular disease risk factors in Samoa and American Samoa. The newest project is a genome-wide association study of adiposity and metabolic phenotypes in Samoa. Ongoing collaborations in Samoan communities also focus on maternal and child health with an emphasis on pregnancy health and infant and child outcomes.
