are prohibited in Brown University residence halls. During 1999, an estimated
15,040 home fires started by candles were reported to public fire departments across the nation. |

By
fire safety regulation, halogen torchière floor lamps are prohibited in residence halls. The biggest safety concern is the open top design and the intense heat generated by the halogen bulb. These lamps have been the cause of a number of fires. |
