Welcome

The Office of Financial Aid is committed to partnering with students and families to explore options to finance the cost of an education at Brown. We assist undergraduate and graduate students, in understanding all aspects of the financial aid application processes for federal, state and institutional need-based grants and loans. Our office also provides information about student employment opportunities both on and off-campus. The instructions and links on this website will provide you and your family details regarding required application forms and documentation, as well as deadlines and other helpful information.

Undergraduate Students

At Brown, financial aid is one of our highest priorities. Brown is committed to meeting a family's full demonstrated financial need with a combination of federal and institutional need-based grants, student employment, and loans. Our financial aid program includes initiatives that in some cases offer awards with no expected parent contribution, and/or no loans. For example, in 2010-11, 61% of students receiving need-based financial aid were awarded financial aid packages with no loan requirement. For more detailed information about these initiatives, sample awards, and other helpful educational financing options we encourage you to visit the Undergraduate section on the sidebar.

Graduate Students

Graduate School financial aid at Brown is mostly merit based and awarded by individual departments and programs through the Graduate School. Outside of any funding provided by the Graduate School, the Office of Financial Aid assists students in determining their eligibility for additional resources, including federal or private student loans. Our office provides individual counseling services to graduate students regarding the variety of resources available to them to meet the cost of education and to help ensure that Brown is an affordable investment.
