Research Seed Funding awards are competitively awarded and help faculty more successfully advance competitive research proposals by supporting the generation of preliminary data, pursuing new directions or collaborations in research, and other endeavors. Investigators may propose projects in one of two categories. Category 1 - single PI projects of any type with budgets up to $50,000 for one year; Category 2 - multi-PI projects supporting a new collaboration between two or more disciplines with budgets up to $100,000 for one year.

The Richard B. Salomon Faculty Research Awards are competitively awarded and support excellence in scholarly work by providing funding for selected faculty research projects deemed to be of exceptional merit. Investigators may propose projects with budgets up to $15,000. Preference will be given to junior faculty who are in the process of building their research portfolio.

Humanities Research Funds help support faculty research in departments and fields in the arts, humanities and social sciences with limited external funding opportunities. Faculty apply directly to their chairs for support; typical awards range from $500 to $1800.

Research Achievement Awards recognize outstanding research achievements of Brown faculty through eight awards given annually that each carry a research award of $5,000. Early Career Awards are offered every year; Mid-Career Awards and Distinguished Career Awards alternate each  year. In 2024,  Mid-Career Awards and Early Career Awards will be offered.

Brown University Core Research Facility (CRF) Infrastructure Program: Core research facilities (CRFs) are essential for building research programs, increasing competitiveness for external grant funding, recruiting top faculty members, and attracting and training students and postdocs. Specialized CRFs that are overseen by experts facilitate multi-disciplinary collaboration and provide technical capacity to investigators throughout the University. Brown's CRF fund, disbursed by the Office of the Vice President for Research, supports the development of these facilities and the maintenance of their equipment.  The directors of existing core facilities that support research at Brown and are approved by the Controller’s Office, may apply for these funds. See here for recent awards. For information on CRFs contact Research_Opps@Brown, for information about the listed instruments contact the respective core facility director.
