Visiting Scholar in Archaeology and the Ancient World

Mariana Cabral is an adjunct professor at the Department of Anthropology and Archaeology at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) in Brazil, working in the Graduate Program in Anthropology (PPGAN), in the PPG in Built Environment and Sustainable Heritage (PPG-ACPS), and as a researcher at the Museu de História Natural e Jardim Botânico (MHNJB). She graduated from Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul in 1998 with a degree in Social Communication - Journalism, received a Bachelor's degree in History from the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in 2002, and was awarded a master's degree in History (with a specialization in Archaeology) from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (2005), and earned her Ph.D. in Anthropology (Concentration in Archaeology) from the Universidade Federal do Pará (2014). From 2005 to 2016, she worked with the Institute of Scientific and Technological Research of the State of Amapá, as Manager of the Archaeological Research Center. From 2010 to 2012, she was Coordinator of the Specialization Course in Archaeological Heritage of the Amazon (2010-2012), at the State University of Amapá (UEAP). Her research focuses on archaeology at the mouth of the Amazon, discussions of theory and methodology in archaeology, indigenous archaeologies, ethnographic archeologies, and collaborative practices.
