MPP alumnus, Dr. Dioscaris Garcia, has been honored by the Rhode Island State Senate for his efforts in guiding Pawtucket and Central Falls through the Covid-19 crisis. Dr.
MPP PhD student, Yusuke Suita, has received the very prestigious Honjo International Scholarship from Japan. Only a few students among hundreds of applicants are awarded this fellowship each year. The scholarship begins this year and continues through 2023. Yusuke is a PhD candidate in the lab of Dr.
MPP PhD student Jamie Catalano was recently awarded a Graduate Award in Brain Science by the Robert J. And Nancy D. Carney Institute for Brain Science. This one-year award is supported by the Robin Chemers Neustein ’75 Graduate Fellowship Fund and the Charles A. Dana Graduate Fellowship Fund.
Kavin Nunez was recently awarded a F99/K00 NIH Blueprint Diversity Specialized Predoctoral to Postdoctoral Advancement in Neuroscience Award from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke. This prestigious award will fund the last year of Kavin’s PhD thesis in the lab of Dr.
MPP PhD student Donald Koroma published a methods chapter in "Ion and Molecule Transport in Lysosomes" (2020, edited by Gasnier and Zhu) describing a novel shRNA screen he developed to identify ion channels, transporters and receptors that regulate the intracellular organelles responsible for producing the pigment melanin.
Dr. Hawasatu Dumbuya, alumna of Brown’s Molecular Pharmacology and Physiology (MPP) graduate program, was once again granted funding from the Medford Educational Foundation to support the Science Career Program (SCP) at her former high school.
