Powered Industrial Truck Training
Course
Description:
Powered Industrial Truck Training is a 4-8 hour session presented
by the Safety Specialist and covers topics related to working safely
with powered industrial trucks. The most common types of powered
industrial trucks are known as forklifts or pallet jacks. The training
will cover:
- General
operational hazards
- Hazards
with particular trucks
- Hazards
in the workplace
- Pre-operational
checks
- Traveling
with a truck
- Loading
a truck
- Truck stability
- Maintenance
Who
Must Attend?
All employees operating equipment defined by OSHA as a powered industrial
truck must attend this training.
When
Must Initial Training be Completed?
Initial powered industrial truck training is required prior to an
employee operating a PIT in the workplace.
How
Often Must I Attend a Refresher Course?
OSHA requires that refresher training be conducted at least every
3 years and more often as necessary. The following are situations
which would trigger the need to administer refresher training at
a frequency greater than every 3 years:
- If an operator
is seen performing an unsafe operation
- If there
is an accident or near-miss accident
- If an evaluation
indicates the need for retraining
- If new equipment
is introduced into the workplace
- If the workplace
conditions change
