Asbestos Awareness Training
Course
Description:
Asbestos
Awareness Training is a 2 hour session presented by the Safety Specialist
and covers topics related to safely working in proximity to identified
friable asbestos containing materials. The training will cover:
- The training
will be presented and address asbestos uses and forms, the health
effects of asbestos, and typical locations of asbestos-containing
building material (ACBM) within the buildings in which they work.
- They will
also be instructed who to call should they find suspect damaged
materials.
- The workers
will also receive information regarding the recognition of deterioration,
damage and delaminating of ACBM, and the location and availability
of O&M plan.
- The attendees
should have a working knowledge of the O&M Plan including
safety, access to ACBM, and re-inspections.
- All workers
attending the course will be informed of the importance of record
keeping as well as employee record generation requirements.
- State licenses
and training requirements will also be discussed. The training
will be provided by a qualified person, arranged by the Office
of Environmental Health & Safety and funded by the requesting
department.
Who
Must Attend?
All employees working in close proximity to identified friable asbestos
containing materials, and who may impact these materials as part
of their work, shall attend the two hour awareness training.
When
Must Initial Training be Completed?
Initial Asbestos Awareness Training must be completed within 30
days of hire.
How Often
Must I Attend a Refresher Course?
Asbestos Awareness
Training is required annually.
