Confined Space Entry Training
Course
Description:
Confined Space Entry Training is an 8 hour session presented by
the Safety Specialist and covers topics related to safely working
in confined spaces. The training will cover:
- Definitions
of confined space and permit-required confined space
- Roles and
duties of entrants, attendants and entry supervisors
- Confined
space & permit-required confined space pre-entry evaluation
- Confined
space & permit-required confined space entry procedure
- Atmospheric
testing requirements
- Site security
- Isolation
Who
Must Attend?
All staff authorized to enter confined spaces are required to attend
this training.
When
Must Initial Training be Completed?
Entry training shall be provided prior to assigning duties related
to confined space entry.
How Often
Must I Attend a Refresher Course?
Refresher training
must be completed to meet the following conditions:
- Entry refresher
training shall be provided prior to change in assigned duties
related to confined space entry.
- Entry refresher
training shall be provided whenever there is a change in permit
space operations that presents a hazard about which an employee
has not previously been trained.
- Entry refresher
training shall be provided whenever the employer has reason to
believe either that there are deviations from the permit space
entry procedures required or that there are inadequacies in the
employee's knowledge or use of these procedures.
- Entry refresher
training shall be provided to establish employee proficiency in
the duties required by this section and shall introduce new or
revised procedures, as necessary.
- Brown University
requires that each employee performing confined space activities
attend refresher training at least once every 3 years if none
of the preceding requirements apply.

Additional
Training (as required by specific job task):
EHS has identified
the potential need for additional employee training that would be
required for any employee who is performing work in a confined space
based on particular hazards present and identified in the confined
space. The following is a list of additional training requirements
for employees that are to be assessed prior to each entry:
- Asbestos

of Hazardous Energy (Lockout/Tagout) Training
- Fall Protection

- Hazard Communication
/ Right-to-Know Training
