Program Director
Thank you for your interest in the Residency Program in Anesthesiology at Brown. We are excited to show you all that we have to offer. We provide our residents with a unique training environment which blends a focus on medical education with unparalleled clinical and research opportunities.
We provide anesthetic services in a variety of clinical settings including Rhode Island Hospital, Hasbro Children’s Hospital, The Miriam Hospital, Newport Hospital, and several ambulatory surgery centers. Our large and dynamic department offers the full spectrum of anesthetic care, providing advanced skills in pediatric anesthesia, cardiac anesthesia, transesophageal echocardiography, critical care medicine, regional anesthesia and pain medicine.
The majority of our resident’s training will occur at Brown University’s main teaching hospital, Rhode Island Hospital. Rhode Island Hospital is both the state’s largest tertiary care hospital and New England’s busiest level 1 trauma center. With very busy cardiac, neurosurgical, thoracic, vascular, orthopedic, and general surgical services, the clinical opportunities are abundant. Also on-site is the adjoining Hasbro Children’s Hospital which is Rhode Island’s only pediatric hospital and responsible for over 95% of the state’s pediatric surgical services.
We are committed to training residents at a level commensurate with our Ivy League status. Our diverse patient population and significant case complexity will provide an outstanding environment for your clinical training. Additionally, we have developed an intensive educational program that will utilize an array of teaching modalities in order to prepare you for board certification and independent practice. Our goal is to train compassionate and competent anesthesia consultants who will further the field of anesthesiology.
Though Rhode Island is the smallest state in the union, it certainly has much to offer. From Providence’s innumerable cultural and culinary opportunities to the state’s many wonderful beaches and outdoor activities, you will be pleased with the lifestyle that living in Rhode Island will make available to you. It is truly a great location to live, work, and play!
We look forward to learning more about you and answering any questions you may have about our program. Please feel free to contact us at [email protected] or (401)606-4286.
Sincerely,
Gildasio S. De Oliveira, MD, MSCI, MBA
