PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Former two-term Florida Governor Jeb Bush will visit Brown University on Wednesday, April 25, to deliver the 97th Stephen A. Ogden Jr. ’60 Memorial Lecture on International Affairs.
In a presentation titled “Leadership in a Changing World,” Bush will share his insights for rebuilding U.S. institutions and supporting opportunities for success for all Americans. Brown President Christina Paxson will moderate an audience question-and-answer session following his remarks.
Bush served as the 43rd governor of the state of Florida from 1999 through 2006. He was the third Republican elected to the state’s highest office and the first Republican in Florida history to be reelected. In 2016, Bush ran for the Republican presidential nomination that ultimately went to Donald Trump.
Prior to his run for president and his terms as governor, Bush was a business leader and entrepreneur, serving as the vice president of Texas Commerce Bank and the co-founder of Codina Bush Group, a real estate development company in South Florida. He is the second son of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush and former First Lady Barbara Bush, and younger brother to former President George W. Bush.
Bush has written three books focused on public policy: “Profiles in Character,” “Immigration Wars: Forging an American Solution,” and “Reply All: A Governor’s Story 1999-2007.” He is also the founder and chairman of the Foundation for Excellence in Education, a national nonprofit education reform organization.
The Wednesday, April 25, event at Brown will take place at 5:00 p.m. at the Salomon Center for Teaching’s De Ciccio Family Auditorium. It is free and open to the public, but tickets are required. The event will also be live-streamed on the Brown website.
