PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — Brown’s Pizzitola Memorial Sports Center will be overrun by robots this weekend. The 5th annual Rhode Island Robot Block Party happens on Saturday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and geared toward robot enthusiasts of all ages.
The event is a chance for children and adults to learn more about the robotic technologies being developed in the Ocean State and beyond. More than 50 exhibitors will be there with demonstrations and hands-on activities with robots used in research, education, work and play.
Roboticists from Brown’s Humans to Robots Lab and Humanity-Centered Robotics Initiative will be on hand to display the robotic systems they use in their research. They’ll be joined by robotics research groups from the University of Rhode Island and Johnson and Wales. Industry and community groups including AS220 and the Rhode Island Drone Club will have displays as well.
The event also hosts a range of robotic competitions involving students from elementary school through college.
The Rhode Island Robot Block Party is presented by Rhode Island Students of the Future, a nonprofit education advocacy organization, in partnership with Brown’s Humanity-Centered Robotics Initiative.
