US Department of Labor Guidance Supports Compliance with FLSA Overtime Rule

Brown University is committed to producing and disseminating world-class research aimed at addressing some of the world's great challenges. As such, we work to ensure that our postdoctoral researchers are fairly compensated, that their wages appropriately reflect their advanced education and hard work to advance scientific progress.

We appreciate the Department of Labor's commitment to assist universities like Brown to comply with the new FLSA overtime rule through its outreach, technical guidance, and compliance assistance. This guidance helps us understand the options available to us to meet the needs of our researchers and our mission as a university. We are also pleased that leaders from the National Institutes of Health have agreed to coordinate in setting a minimum salary standard for postdoctoral researchers supported by NIH funding that meets the new salary threshold.
