The Swearer Center's Community Advisory Board invites individuals and community-based organizations in Rhode Island to submit nominations (including self-nominations) for one of three $2500 awards recognizing work in the areas of 1) Community Joy and Resilience, 2) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racist Practice, or 3) Impact and Access for Vulnerable Rhode Islanders. Nominations closed on Friday, March 8, 2024.
The Swearer Center's Community Advisory Board reviews nominations and selects awardees in each category:
-
The Community Advisory Board Award for Community Joy and Resilience
Recognizes work that is designed to uplift individuals and Rhode Island communities and supports their ability to overcome or recover from challenging conditions. This may include (but is not limited to) work that celebrates, acknowledges, and/or commemorates community milestones, history, heritage and development.
-
The Community Advisory Board Award for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Anti-Racist Practice
Recognizes work that increases awareness, knowledge, and action to shift mindsets, behaviors, and practices toward more equitable and inclusive spaces for individuals and communities in Rhode Island. Work in these areas may seek to actively deconstruct race-based interpersonal, structural, and systemic barriers to fully inclusive organizations, communities and society.
-
The Community Advisory Board Award for Impact and Access for Vulnerable Rhode Islanders
Recognizes work that aims to address the needs of the most vulnerable Rhode Islanders. This may include (but is not limited to) work that supports those experiencing housing instability, food insecurity, poverty, and abuse and neglect. We encourage those submitting nominations to include and describe ‘vulnerable’ individuals or communities not listed here based on their experience and the work of the entity they wish to nominate.
Recipients receive a cash award of $2500. The Swearer Center will also collaborate with recipients to highlight and promote their work through the Center’s various communications channels. These awards aim to highlight and support the work of agencies in the public and social sector that are working to move the needle in key areas.
