Scientific Visualization in the Service of Historic Preservation: Surveying Traditional Small-Craft of the Venetian Lagoon

Sponsor: Ian Straughn

Evelyn documented a declining population of small wooden boats in Venice. In collaboration with Jonathan Taggart of Taggart Objects Conservation and professor Fabio Carrera of Worcester Polytechnic Institute, she used architectural modeling programs to generate construction plans for a collection of traditional working boats in the hopes that these boats might continue to be studied and reproduced in the future.

Evelyn is a Fulbright Scholar on loan from the Mystic Seaport Museum of America and the Sea. She is studying the ship's carpenter's tools in the collection at Vasamuseet, Sweden. Evelyn is a shipwright at the Mystic Seaport Museum where she is working on a team restoring the Charles Morgan, the last wooden whaling ship afloat.
