Based on a new perspective through which to look at basic numeric operations like addition, Nicholas developed an innovative way of studying algebraic structures, which has brought to light new notions of and possibilities for numbers. By exploring these new views Nicholas has further been able to provide a paradigm for classifying and enumerating a traditional form of number system, called a ring, in terms of simpler systems, known as groups.
