Grysmarie Genere 2019-20

B.S. Health Studies with a concentration in Health Promotion, B.S. Psychology, with a minor in Gender and Women’s Studies 2019, University of Rhode Island

Entering college, Grysmarie was afraid of the unknown. She grew up in Providence, R.I. and she had no idea of what it was like to leave home. Attending the University of Rhode Island and graduating in May of 2019 helped her break away from her fears. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Health Studies with a concentration in Health Promotion and doubled majored in Psychology. She also minored in Gender and Women’s Studies.

Growing up in a community that is underserved and underrepresented, she was eager to help others like her. While attending the University of Rhode Island, she worked as a SNAP Outreach worker for the URI SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) Outreach Project. As a SNAP Outreach worker, it was her responsibility to supply nutritional assistance to individuals in need by raising awareness and providing information about SNAP. This was only the beginning of her profound devotion to helping the community. In the summer of 2019, she was a Student Data Collector, assisting in collecting data that pertained to health equity at several health centers in Rhode Island. The knowledge she gained through her work has played a major factor in her advocacy for public health and leadership. Now she is committed to eliminating doubt and strengthening self-efficacy in students by providing them with the tools they need to succeed in college.
