Dan leads the Community-Engaged Data and Evaluation Collaborative (CEDEC) to advance data-centric projects between the Swearer Center, community partners, and Brown campus partners. Through his work with CEDEC, he connects these groups to build sustainable and equitable partnerships around evaluation, reporting, and data collection and analysis.

Dan received his undergraduate degree from Temple University in the heart of Philadelphia, where his data journey began studying biodiversity and urban ecology. He went on to earn a dual Ph.D. in Entomology and Ecology, Evolutionary Biology, and Behavior from Michigan State University, where he led a collaboration to engineer and analyze a large database of plant chemicals. Though he spent many years with plants and bugs, people and the decisions they made to steward land and data were at the core of his work. While in Michigan, Dan also co-organized several initiatives to further socioeconomic equity in STEM education and research and published on leveraging ecologists’ coding skills for engagement with community partners. His background in data analysis led him to work in philanthropy, where he consulted on projects such as building data systems and framing grantmaking data through a social justice lens.
