Olivia Hinch is a rising Senior studying International Relations with a focus on the Middle East and North Africa. As a lifelong Vermonter, Olivia cares deeply about grassroots movements and the power that small communities have to enact change. Previously, Olivia worked in the office of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, where she served the constituents of her home state and conducted research concerning detained women’s rights activists in Saudi Arabia. Olivia studies the impacts of American militarism as a Research Assistant at the Costs of War Project at the Watson Institute and spent the Fall 2018 semester volunteering with a Forum réfugiés-Cosi, a refugee resettlement organization in Lyon, France. At Brown, Olivia aims to promote inclusion on campus as Political Director of the Brown Progressive Action Committee and as a leader for the Brown Outdoor Leadership Training program. This summer, Olivia is excited to combine experience in direct service and meaningful policy research as the Tunisia Policy Intern at the Project on Middle East Democracy in Washington, D.C. In the future, she plans to pursue graduate studies in International Relations and use her education to empower the voices of those affected by militarism and war.
