Alison Lu '24 will travel to the Netherlands. She will focus on comparing the differences between drug policy and community stigma surrounding people who use drugs in the United States and the Netherlands, a country that has been very successful in implementing harm reduction interventions such as supervised consumption sites to reduce overdose deaths. Her project will allow her to learn about the socioeconomic, cultural, and interpersonal factors that have allowed the Netherlands to successfully implement supervised consumption sites. Her project will culminate in a written report on how these factors could be applied to the United States to improve perceptions about people who use drugs and harm reduction interventions in the United States.
