Aruna collaborated with DAYA, a community organization in Houston that works with battered South Asian women, to create a user-friendly and culturally sensitive resource guide for its clients. The guide provided information on legal rights and low-cost community services in Hindi and Gujarati and assisted in protecting women in abusive relationships.

After Brown, Aruna won a Fullbright Scholarship to do public health research in Singapore for the 2003-2004 academic year. She then earned her M.D. from the University of Texas, San Antonio and currently works at Rhode Island Hospital, specializing in endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism.
