Christopher participated in ongoing excavations at Tell Satu Qala in Iraqi Kurdistan, site of the ancient city of Idu, once situated at the frontier of the Assyrian Empire. Focusing on glazed brickwork, Christopher studied architectural remains as evidence for cross-cultural interaction amongst the diverse peoples in the ancient Near East.
