As a Royce Fellow, Clare will extend relationships created through their time as a tutor for Brown Refugee Youth Tutoring and Enrichment to explore the ways that audio storytelling can support Providence’s refugee communities. Clare’s project has three parts. First, they will collaborate with their longtime BRYTE mentee, Lina, to craft audio stories representing Lina’s experiences in Syria, Jordan, and the United States. These stories first took shape as a long-form response to pressures Lina felt to compress her story as a high-school senior applying to college. Alongside the stories with Lina, Clare hopes to create a companion narrative of their documentary process as a way to share strategies for and invite discussion of community-engaged storytelling.  Finally, Clare will work with the Refugee Dream Center to strengthen and grow the ways they use audio on both their website and in outreach to their communities.
