Investigating the Interface between Neuroengineering Research and Technology for Disabled Athletes

Faculty Sponsor: Diane Hoffman-Kim

Emily examined the connection between nerve regeneration research in the laboratory and current bio-engineered medical applications for treating neurologically disabled athletes through continuing research in the neuroengineering laboratory and participation in the No Barriers USA conference, which promotes innovation of assistive technologies for people with disabilities to participate in outdoor activities and sport. Emily continued her research throughout the year, focusing on polyacrylamide, a material that can mimic the stiffness of the brain and spinal cord in order to provide a better in vitro model of the nervous system.

Emily lives in Boston, MA and is an aspiring international rugby referee. She is currently the Data Consultant at The NW Network.
