Increasing involvement of husbands in maternal healthcare in [Indian state]

Leona '23 is a dual concentrator in Neuroscience and Theatre Arts. She is interested in exploring arts integration in medicine and ways that we can move towards a more holistic healthcare model. Project:

In India, pregnancy and childbirth are thought to be exclusive duties solely belonging to the mother. However, many research studies have shown that male involvement in maternal care leads to better outcomes for the mother and the child. While Indian leaders have emphasized the importance of male participation in birth, no clear interventions have been created to increase involvement in birth. With that, the objective of this project is to work with the Public Health Research Institute of India (PHRII) to implement community-based interventions inspired by doula practices to increase men’s involvement in reproductive health issues.
