Validation of a Quantitative, Visual Diagnostic Tool for Detecting Orthopedic-Related Infections
Faculty Sponsor: Christopher Born
Infection is a pressing problem for orthopedic surgeons, and drives up healthcare costs, increases patient’s pain, and increases mortality rates. Mursal will explore a novel
diagnostic tool using fluorescent antibodies to rapidly detect bacterial infections on orthopedic surgical sites. She hopes her research will contribute to improve detection of potentially fatal infections allowing physicians to create more targeted treatment plans against infection.
