Civil Liberties in the Nineteenth Century Atlantic: The Negro Seaman Acts

Faculty Sponsor: Michael Vorenberg

To gain a better understanding of the historical development of international civil liberties, Stephen examined the implications of the Negro Seaman Acts. Southern legislatures passed these laws during the early nineteenth century intending to protect slavery but instead fostered increased debate about the legitimacy of that very institution and the rights of human beings.

Stephen works as an investment analyst in Chicago at Anchor Bolt Capital. Stephen received his M.B.A. from the Booth School of Busines at the University of Chicago in 2012.
