Health Leads

Every day across the nation, Health Leads volunteers impact the health of low-income children and families by connecting them to social services through clinic-based Family Help Desks. Without community buy-in and hospital administrative support, Health Leads cannot accomplish its goals of empowering families and providers to manage social health and making a systemic impact on the way America’s healthcare works. This summer, Adele will review current clinical integration methods and conduct interviews with patients, volunteers, Health Leads staff, “clinical champions”, and nonprofit staff to assess how Health Leads and other nonprofits are integrated successfully into clinics, informing Health Leads’ efforts to provide critical services to more families every day.

Personal Statement

Adele Levine ’14 is a Health and Human Biology concentrator at Brown. She first delved into work with Health Leads Providence her freshman fall, and her passion for its innovative model of client empowerment and health care policy change has since spurred her to take on independent projects and casework at Health Leads Boston and New York. Most recently, her interest in health and social service delivery led her to intern at Single Stop USA, where she gained first-hand experience in nonprofit policy and development practices. The Starr Fellowship will enable Adele to better understand Health Leads’ clinical integration practices and nonprofits’ methods for leading and creating social change.
