The La Plant Art Camp is an art program for at-risk youth on the Cheyenne River Reservation that promotes Lakota culture and tradition through visual art. We work with community members, Lakota artists, and cultural experts to form a curriculum that empowers youth to appreciate and engage with their culture. Our approach promotes mental health, collaboration, self-esteem, and self-expression. We work to develop intergenerational connections that will unite a community and ignite a culture in the wake of forced assimilation.
