We are all responsible for ensuring a safe environment
- by knowing what kinds of behavior are prohibited
- by knowing how to advise someone in need, and
- by insuring that any incident is reported.
The federal law governing these policies is called Title IX. For detailed information see the University's Title IX Policy.
What is Prohibited Behavior?
See Section VII of the document linked above. Even though all Brown employees are required to passed an online examination on this subject, it is a good idea to read about it and understand it better.
In particular, note that sexual or gender-based harassment need not involve any quid pro quo. It can be a matter of creating a “hostile work environment”.
