History

Q&I formed in late 2014 with a $1M gift from the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL) to catalyze interventional research on topics of importance to healthcare providers. AHCA/NCAL leaders selected Brown for this gift in large part due to the Center for Gerontology & Healthcare Research’s expert researchers and robust data infrastructure.

While Gerontology’s research focuses on observational analyses – for example, examining patterns and disparities in care delivery – Q&I’s research focuses on implementing and evaluating interventions to improve care for older adults. We partner with those who need research expertise to establish the evidence base for interventions they have developed.

Since our official launch in 2015, we have cultivated a diverse portfolio of nearly a dozen studies, representing $8.6M (to date) in grant funding in addition to the $53M IMPACT Collaboratory award. The common theme among our projects is innovation: in terms of the intervention itself or the pragmatic methods we continually refine when conducting research under real-world conditions in healthcare settings.
