With 10 months remaining in BrownTogether campaign, fundraising passes $4 billion mark

President Christina H. Paxson wrote to the campus community about priorities for raising funds for research, teaching and student support before the campaign’s culmination in December 2024.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — With 10 months remaining in Brown University’s ambitious BrownTogether campaign, fundraising in support of the University’s mission and strategic priorities has passed the $4 billion mark, President Christina H. Paxson wrote in a Wednesday, Feb. 28, letter to campus.

“Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of thousands of Brown alumni, parents and friends, the campaign’s successes to date will benefit generations to come,” Paxson wrote. “We are now well-positioned to build on this momentum to increase investments in people, innovative research and education, campus infrastructure and the student experience for the duration of the campaign, which continues through Dec. 31, 2024.”

Since the launch of the campaign in 2015, donors have supported impactful scholarship, boosted access to a Brown education, funded the growth and improvement of Brown’s physical campus, and enriched the educational experience for thousands of talented students, Paxson noted. In the coming months, the University will set the stage for the next chapter of Brown’s excellence by continuing to raise funds in support of teaching and research, collaborative scholarship, financial aid and other important priorities.

In addition to the thousands of community members who have provided support, Paxson thanked campaign co-chairs Joan Wernig Sorensen, Theresia Gouw and Ralph Rosenberg and the Advancement team at Brown for their commitment to BrownTogether’s success.

“As we approach the campaign’s final months with plans to strengthen Brown’s impact even further, we look forward to building on this success and doing more to support the extraordinary Brown students and scholars whose efforts are leading to knowledge that betters our nation and world,” Paxson wrote. “I hope you share my excitement about the transformative impact of BrownTogether to date and the opportunity to finish the campaign strong.”

Dear Members of the Brown Community,

With 10 months remaining in our ambitious BrownTogether campaign, I am delighted to share that fundraising in support of Brown’s mission and Building on Distinction strategic plan has passed the $4 billion mark. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of thousands of Brown alumni, parents and friends, the campaign’s successes to date will benefit generations to come. We are now well-positioned to build on this momentum to increase investments in people, innovative research and education, campus infrastructure and the student experience for the duration of the campaign, which continues through Dec. 31, 2024.

Our success to date is a testament to the strength and generosity of the Brown community. Since the launch of the campaign, donors have supported impactful scholarship, boosted access to a Brown education, funded the growth and improvement of our physical campus, and enriched the educational experience for thousands of talented undergraduate and graduate students. In the coming months, we’ll set the stage for the next chapter of Brown’s excellence by continuing to raise funds in support of teaching and research, collaborative scholarship, financial aid and other important priorities.

In keeping with the campaign’s focus on advancing excellence in education and research, we will recruit and retain world-class faculty and researchers, and provide the facilities — such as the future integrated life sciences building — and infrastructure they need to power discovery. We will place particular emphasis on investments in scholarship that addresses consequential and complex issues of our time. And ensuring that a Brown education remains accessible, inclusive and impactful for all students will remain one of our highest priorities. We’ll aim to raise support for key financial aid initiatives like our upcoming transition to need-blind admissions for international students, and we will seek additional opportunities to ensure that our campus fosters a sense of belonging for students from a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences, and prepares them for successful lives and careers.

As BrownTogether continues toward its culmination at the end of the year, it will do so under the leadership of current Chancellor Samuel M. Mencoff, incoming Chancellor Brian T. Moynihan, who begins his role July 1, 2024, and campaign co-chairs Joan Wernig Sorensen, Theresia Gouw and Ralph Rosenberg. I am deeply grateful to Joan, Theresia and Ralph for their profound commitment to BrownTogether’s success, as well as all of our Advancement staff under the leadership of Senior Vice President for Advancement Sergio Gonzalez.

I also sincerely appreciate the generosity of each and every member of the Brown community who has contributed to the extraordinary impact of the campaign to date, including through important gifts to the Brown Annual Fund. Your support is truly making a difference. As we approach the campaign’s final months with plans to strengthen Brown’s impact even further, we look forward to building on this success and doing more to support the extraordinary Brown students and scholars whose efforts are leading to knowledge that betters our nation and world.

I hope you share my excitement about the transformative impact of BrownTogether to date and the opportunity to finish the campaign strong.

Sincerely,

Christina H. Paxson
President
