Dr. Patricia Cioe recently received notice of award for a new R21 grant Preloading with Nicotine Replacement Therapy in HIV-positive Smokers to Improve Self-Efficacy and Quit Attempts from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health. 

This randomized clinical trial will examine whether use of nicotine replacement therapy prior to quit date, for the purpose of improving adherence to NRT and increasing self-efficacy for smoking cessation, will improve smoking cessation outcomes among smokers with HIV.
