Introducing Swearer Sparks: Stories of Social Change at Brown

May 19, 2014

The Swearer Center of Public Service is proud to announce the launch of Swearer Sparks, an online platform for stories of social change at Brown University.

Swearer Sparks was designed with the belief that innovative, thoughtful approaches to social change depend on the exchange of people's experiences and ideas. On the website, users can:

  • Explore 100+ true, inspiring stories created by student storytellers and changemakers
  • Meet students, alumni, faculty and staff engaging with social issues in communities around the world
  • Discover dozens of resources for active and aspiring changemakers
  • Create a profile and connect with others at Brown who share their passions

Many of the featured stories were created by Storytellers for Good, a Swearer Center program that supports students with skills in digital storytelling (written, photo, video, audio, and illustration/animation) to produce multimedia stories about students, alumni, and faculty exploring social change at Brown.

Swearer Sparks was designed by the Social Innovation Initiative, a program created in 2007 to support students interested in social entrepreneurship. Since then, it has grown into a community of hundreds of students, alumni, and faculty and sparked Brown’s selection as an Ashoka U Changemaker Campus.
