Scholarship

Engaged scholarship is a form of scholarship (teaching, research, service) in which faculty and students partner with organizations and individuals outside the academy to address challenges faced by non-academic partners, thereby co-creating new knowledge.  Engaged scholarship can be done in partnership with private enterprise, government agencies and other public entities like community nonprofit organizations.

At the Swearer Center, we assist students, faculty and community partners with developing the capacity to do engaged scholarship through research, workshops, courses and programs linked below.  We also support faculty and coordinate engaged scholarship initiatives linked to the right. We focus on, cultivate, and support engage scholarship that has a clear, and just, public good as its goal, engages non-academic partners as full collaborators and agenda setters, and seeks sustainable and systemic solutions to challenges identified by community partners.
