Photos: The Lindemann offers ‘elevated’ experience for student-led fashion show

Fashion@Brown staged its annual show of student-created designs, presented for the first time at Brown’s Lindemann Performing Arts Center.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The annual fashion show led by the student-run organization Fashion@Brown and co-produced for the first time by the Brown Arts Institute offered a new level of sophistication this year: an elevated runway, made possible by the state-of-the-art capabilities of Brown University’s Lindemann Performing Arts Center.

The professional setup in the venue’s main hall made it easy for attendees to take in all of the meticulous garments and ensembles — created entirely by students from Brown and the Rhode Island School of Design, who designed and sewed the collections for the early May showcase. Designers presented everything from sophisticated gowns to belly-baring beach outfits to futuristic workwear.

“Hosting the show in The Lindemann for the first time allowed us to elevate the experience overall, creating a really professional show for attendees to view and designers to showcase their work,” said Simone Donoho, a senior at Brown concentrating in applied mathematics who is co-president of Fashion@Brown. “The elevated catwalk platform at The Lindemann was a true privilege.”

About 150 students from Brown and RISD contributed to the show, which is the student organization’s culminating event of the year. Students worked in teams on clothing design, hair and makeup, graphic design, social media and more to bring the event to fruition.

Brown Arts Institute staff in departments including production, programming, marketing and audience services worked with the students for months to make the show possible in The Lindemann.

“People join Fashion@Brown with the dream of being able to participate in the show, and it’s our most sought after event,” Donoho said.

The organization also hosts industry speakers, workshops, a fashion week, exhibitions and pop-up shops.
